St. John's Wort or BALSAM - The Healing Power of Nature

St. John's Wort (Balm or sedge), is the main ingredient of authentic recipes that are designed to address, primitive but still effective, disease states in the human body.
The tops of mature balm plants (also known as sedge, pyrethrum, or mint, in various regions of Greece), is collected from inaccessible areas, unaffected by human activity or grazing by animals. It is harvested at a time of day without strong sunlight and when there is low humidity, this ensures a high level of the essential oils in the plant.
The oils obtained from this plant, have been claimed to have rare and various miraculous properties. Balsamic oil was discovered and applied therapeutically, first by the eminent Greek physician Hippocrates of antiquity, and later the Greek botanist and founder of pharmacology Dioscorides and many other Greek and foreign medical pioneers such as the Roman Gaius, Pliny etc.
The mature plant tops are placed in sealed glass containers with pure green olive oil and left in the sun until it obtains the characteristic deep red-brown colour, indicating that the Balsam oil is ready for use.
Balsamic oil has many uses; from burns, bites, scratches, muscle ache and bruises to skin irritation, psoriasis, cuts, warts etc.
Avoid sun exposure in case you have used a lot of the preparation. Generally use it as a drink or a topical balm after noon, due to it's relaxing qualities.
Pregnant women should not consume more than one cup a day in the evening.
